Never pay anyone to find you a job in Norway

It is not allowed to charge a jobseeker for finding them a job. If someone asks you to pay for a job, you are almost certainly being scammed.

The rule

Under Norwegian law, companies that match jobseekers with employers may not charge the jobseeker for that service. Legitimate employers cover their own recruitment costs. A real job offer never depends on you paying an agent, a “visa fee” to a recruiter, or a “guarantee” deposit.

Why we exist

Many people around the world want to work in Norway, and too many are targeted by false promises. Before you spend time, money and hope, you need to know two things: whether you can legally apply for work in Norway, and where your chances are best.

That is what JobsNorway does. We give you an independent, personal assessment of your situation. We do not find you a job, we do not place you with employers, and we receive no payment from employers or recruiters. You pay for an honest assessment, and then you act on it yourself, through the official channels.

Red flags

  • Anyone who asks you to pay a fee to get a job in Norway, or to be “placed”, “registered” or “put on a list” for employers
  • A job offer for a position you never applied for, from an employer you cannot verify
  • A guaranteed job, guaranteed visa or guaranteed work permit. Nobody can guarantee these
  • Pressure to pay quickly, or to pay by gift cards, cryptocurrency or to a private account
  • A request to send your passport, bank details or a deposit before any contract is signed
  • An “employer” that uses a free email address and has no verifiable company details

What is legitimate

  • Application fees that you pay directly to the authorities, for example for a residence permit application, are official fees and not job fees.
  • Employers advertising their own vacancies, and paying for their own recruitment.
  • Independent information and assessment services that are clear about what they are, and do not promise a job.

Why a proper assessment matters

A careful assessment saves you from wasting months on a route that is closed to you, and from paying people who promise what they cannot deliver. Know your chances first. Then act, safely, on your own.
